There is more than one way to do inference. This session will outline the various types of inference that are possible, and describe how Semantic Technologies and Business Rules differ in their approaches. Also discussed are the standards that make up the Semantic Web, and some of the main commercial offerings in each of the key Semantic Technology sub markets. The session will wrap up with a description of what the future best practice will be regarding the symbiosis of Semantics and Business Rules. What you will learn:

• Become familiar with RDF and OWL, the primary standards behind the Semantic Web.
• Acquire a framework for thinking about inference.
• Learn the limits of Semantic Inference.
• Be able to describe how Semantics and Business Rules can play to each other’s strength.

Dave McComb is President of Semantic Arts, a software architecture consulting company, specializing in helping clients apply SOA and Semantics to their Enterprise Architectures. He has 30 years of enterprise level application and architecture experience, is the lead inventor on four patents in the area of Model Drive Architecture, is the Program Chair and Co-producer of the annual Semantic Technology Conference and is the Author of Semantics in Business Systems.
