    ABOUT THIS SESSION:

Machine learning (ML) offers algorithms and tools for the extraction of decision rules from even very large data sets. Here, the authors consider ML-based rules discovery as an important component of the business rule harvesting process. A rule engine may also serve as a trainer for building validated training sets for different rule learners. This session describes integration scenarios and supporting tools for combined use of rule engines and rule learners. Applying a good ML algorithm should normally result in far fewer rules compared with a potentially unmanageably large number of rules created manually. What you will learn:

    • The basic principles of machine learning and rules discovery.
    • Rule learners as BRMS components.
    • BR and ML integration schemata with concrete examples.
    • How ML allows one to compress large rules sets.
